Like a shooting star, he lit a dark sky. If only for a brief moment, it was bright and magnificent.
Judi and I attended a memorial service today.
Our friends lost their baby at five days old.
Thing is, they knew it was going to happen and they prepared for it.
He had a chromosome disorder that was diagnosed at twenty weeks in the womb.
Our friends opted to carry their child to full term against all medical recommendation.
It was at this time they knew they needed some kind of hope, so they started attending church.
They found Jesus. They found hope. We prayed for a miracle.
The baby was expected to live ten minutes after birth and instead lived for five miraculous days.
116 amazing hours with their new son. 115 hours and 50 minutes longer than they expected.
Our friends received their miracle.
After his service, we released 116 balloons into the afternoon sun. 111 white and 5 blue for the five days he was alive.
It was profound and beautiful.
Godspeed, little Mason.

Wow! I sit here in tears.
At the plan our God had to bring these people to his hope.
And at the opportunity they had to be blessed by God and enjoy their child for those 5 days.
Wow!

It was truly one of the most precious moments in my life to release those balloons. You captured it perfectly.

Ain’t gonna lie, I shed a few too. I can’t imagine them having to go through this but at the same time what an eternal blessing.
A ‘bright sadness’ as Charlie Hall penned. God really does have a master plan.
